You may have been to the office or corporate with the unappealing or outdated office. The furniture dirty and stained and the artwork is not inviting at all. Perhaps, you also have gone to a new office which has no art on the walls. Offices like these can make people feel uneasy and off-putting. According to experts, our opinions are constructed on the first impression. In general, the first impression can be the measure when making decisions about someone’s professionalism. That is how easy our perceptions are influenced. Therefore, it is crucial for businesses and offices to make an extra effort in terms of décor.

Speaking of office décor, it will be incomplete not to include artworks. Artworks show the customers that you are successful, professional, as well as fully capable of working with them. One way to tell your customers about the real you are by choosing the right type of artwork. For instance, if you have a medical facility or clinic, you may need to choose artwork with healing power to provide serene and calm atmosphere.

If you are unsure of what kind of artwork to choose, below are some guides to follow

Decide the theme

The main subject matter or theme of the office artwork is important. You need to choose artworks which will provide focus and positive thought as well as will inspire your employees. The artwork will provide a good effect for them while taking a break from tasks. Also, you need to remember that they will see the artworks on a daily basis. So, if you choose something uninspiring or boring piece, it will also affect the employees.

First impression

Speaking of office decoration, the first impression is the most basic thing. This is because the chosen artwork is able to influence one’s opinion about your business and the employees. To make a good first impression, you need to choose the right place for “visual wall”. The visual wall is the very first wall that a person will see when entering the office. To make a good first impression, you need to give a serious thought about what kind of impression you want to give. Then, find artworks that suit with your purpose. If you choose to place the artworks near entrances or doorways, it should have a welcoming atmosphere as well as fit the company style. Unless you have a personal interior design, you need to think carefully about people’s first impression to your office.

The colors and its impact

There are indeed plenty things to consider when buying artworks. One of the considerations is the color selection. Colors have a huge impact on artworks. It can make the artworks outstanding or make it looks bad. If your working environment put employees in priority, you want to choose a color which gives comfortable and calming sense. You can choose brown artwork which gives approachability and stability. On the other hand, if the working atmosphere is spontaneous and active, orange is the right color. Orange artwork triggers the employees’ energy and upbeat. Meanwhile, paired together red and orange if you run a restaurant since these colors evoke hunger.

Do not limit your imagination

When it comes to the imagination in choosing artworks, the sky is the limit. This means never limit your imagination to certain kind of artworks only. The artworks should not only come from famous classical artists but also from artists that are famous for your age groups. The most important thing is that the artworks should give a great first impression. If you plan to change the artworks frequently, you may need to consider the less expensive piece. You can also choose decorative art instead of fine art which is affordable.

Do not forget your employees

According to study, when involving employees for decorating the office, it increases their productivity by 30%. This is because art is subjective and potentially, not everyone happy with the final choice. However, you can eliminate this matter by choosing abstract and less offensive art for the common room. When it comes to the employees’ workspace, you can give them the freedom to choose artworks that suit the general office theme. If it is possible, you can also use voting tool or kind of form to accommodate their opinion.

Mix it up

If you are the type of person who easily gets bored, you can rent artworks instead of buying. There are some companies that rent artworks and rotate it every 6 to 12 months. This certainly helps to keep things fresh. This is a great way to keep the atmosphere fresh especially if you have a frequent client from time to time.

Consider the budget

The artwork is not cheap. Some of them are even very expensive. But this does not mean that you should spend large budget for the artworks. Make sure to set budget wisely and stick to it. Decide which are you want to place the artwork and keep it as simple as possible such as using a simple frame, single mat, or such. This also helps to make the art becomes the focal point. Even if you cannot afford to buy artwork, you can still rent it out and have it rotate after some months of use. After all, have fun with the process.

Speak to Advisor

If choosing an art is quite a daunting task for you, speaking to art advisor will help you a lot. Contact an art advisor if you cannot decide what kind of color to use for the office or what the right artwork is to give positive atmosphere. Most art providers provide free art consultation even before you decide to use their service.

Whether you are renovating, updating, or even building an office, you need to remember that art is an important element of the design. Do not let your office becomes plain and artless. Choosing artwork does not have to be expensive, it should trigger positive and good atmosphere. As art is a personal choice, involving employees in the process will keep them positive and energize.

MEET THE ARTIST

Dr Zenaidy Castro is a founder of Vogue Smiles Melbourne, a private Dental practice based in Melbourne CBD, Australia. Prior to working in photography, her artistic journey involved exploration and experimentation with painting a wide variety of subject matter, ranging from organized still life to landscape, to life drawing, to portraits, to abstract..She also worked in a wide range of styles, interests, and themes, as well as in a variety of media, and was influenced by many artistic styles. Her creative process seems like a yin and yang, with a strong passion for each end of the colour spectrum—from black and white to art that displays a visual feast of colour..These different parts of her artistic persona balance each other. She feel strongest consistent love of abstract art—in all of its different forms, be it a real painting or digital art or in photography. She love the creative process involved in searching your imagination for inspiration. She love the vibrancy and colour explosion in abstract works, which expresses mood and infuses the art with life of its own, built upon richly coloured paint and a wide rangeof textural effects, painting strokes, and styles..She always seek inspiration by how something so small and seemingly insignificant can be transformed into something big and beautiful and full of life with colour, forms, lines, and light. She like that the unfolding of things—with different perspective and imagination—will begiven a chance to turn into something beautiful..She love her artistic journey of creating and improvising something, from simple realistic images to abstract renditions, and ending up with something entirely different. Perhaps this isher personal “handwriting” of art—her share of the world’s visual language..READ MORE
