As an abstract artist, I always love minimalism in my Photography. I like the simplicity of things. It invites you to get lost in the emptiness of space and to see things you weren’t aware of otherwise in rather busy composition.

As minimalistic photography is one of my passion, a desert safari is a perfect place for my minimalism and landscape desert photos. So on my to-do list when I visited Dubai last Jan 2014,  was visiting a desert safari.

Dubai desert safari, located in the sandy desert, is an electrifying and thrilling experience. So, it definitely would be a great mistake to leave this emirate without visiting the Dubai desert safari and taking some minimalistic photography and landscape desert photos.

So, here is how it went.

My tour started with a pickup at my hotel through a robust and crushy 4×4 jeep. We were going through a paved road from the city for about 40-50 minutes until we reached the area where concrete meets with sand. Our main destination was an Arabian camp middle of the desert. When we started the journey the plate was even and the journey was calm. But by the time we entered into the deeper desert, the ride became wilder.

Desert Safari in Dubai can be a memorable attraction, make sure you go for the adventure and you are not full-stomach as the 4×4 will be passing the ups and downs desert. Some passenger experience motion sickness.   Even you will be told that if you feel scared, the drive mode will be different.

So, here is how it went.

When we started the journey the plate was even and the journey was calm. But by the time we entered into the deeper desert, the ride became wilder.

The Land Cruiser ferried in convoy eastwards from the city into the desert. The drive actually takes place in Sharjah rather than Dubai. After about an hour the convoy made a at local shop, there are souvenirs you can buy and some bought an Arabian hat and outfit. When we got out into the area where the Safari was going to take place we endured another stop but this was expected, one to allow the drivers to deflate the tyres to effectively widen their width and create less resistance on the sand meaning there is less of a chance of the Cruisers sinking in.
This done we then set off, again in convoy but this was not as bad as one might imagine. We navigated an extremely circuitous route and having vehicles in front and on various sides actually helped provide a tremendous degree of perspective with regard to the angles and slopes that we were undertaking. You could see the other vehicles sliding about or spraying out the sand and you knew that you were doing exactly the same even if you didn’t have a clear view because of the angles you were sitting at. I felt scared and feel like we are  sliding down it depending on how much power the driver is using.

I have learn the driver need a separate licence to be able to go out onto the sand dunes. They make it driving  look so easy. A thrilling, bone-breaking ride on a 4×4 vehicle across sand dunes -especially our driver  texts and calls with his phone while driving.

From a safety perspective there are plenty of grab handles inside and the car is fitted with an interior roll bar. There were 3 of us in my Land Cruiser and we all felt exhilarated after the drive but totally safe during our outing on the dunes, which needless to say felt all too short an experience, but certainly one that does not  to be repeated again.

By the time we reached the camp, it was late afternoon. While waiting for our dinner and the main event, there were some activities outside the camp like Camel Ride and dune buggies

Inside the camp, I was feeling like I was in a fair. There was a long queue of tables surrounded by chairs. In the center of the camp, there was a stage where you can find coffee or tea or Shisha smoke with juice.

A place for the tattoo was there too. Actually, it felt like a mini community as well as a fair. Can you imagine how their life was of old days when locals engaged this kind of activities! I captured lots of photos so that I can remember every single point about this place.

After passing a crazy day of adventure and fun, it was the time for the treat with dinner. The place was fulfilled with the mixed scent of spices. Though the mixed scent was not that good, that doesn’t mean the food was bad. It is just different.

But, but the dinner party can never be complete with dance. There was to sets of dances performed by a man and women. A girl went first for belly dance; throw some Shakira-esque moves that attracted all the males’ complete attention. Next, we had the dance called tanoura performed by the man. I was astonished by his spinning for 15 minutes without any break.  The cool thing about his colorful and strange costume was how it lights up. All the floodlights were off but it was perfectly a sight. I took all the important thing’s photos in my camera.

Beautiful Arabic dance – Traditional fire dance, belly dance is a major attraction in desert with food and drinks.

What a great way to end up a night!

Overall, the enormous desert, camel ride, sunset, food, and dance were truly awesome and unforgettable. My photographer mind became happy by taking enough minimalism photography and landscape desert photos.. Spending a whole day and night was a novel experience for me. I think Dubai desert safari is definitely one of the most beautiful and authentic experiences that Dubai can offer. The Arabian Desert safari in Dubai is a must-try place for anybody who will go Dubai. The desert is, After all, from where the Dubai came its unpretentious beginning before it became the most beautiful, important and world-class city.

January to February is the shopping festival of Dubai and that was on my next itinerary  after this safari adventure. See you then
